Anna Yolanda Engel, 97, a long-time resident of Rivercrest at Newbury Court, passed away peacefully on May 3, 2010. She was the wife of the late Andrew W. Engel, Jr. to whom she had been married for 67 years.
Born on February 11, 1913 in Philadelphia, Anna was the daughter of Joseph and Kathryn (Erban) Breitenbach and, as a young girl, she became an accomplished pianist. She was a devout Christian and her faith helped her overcome countless obstacles along with her sweet smile.
In June of 1935, she married Andrew and they raised a family in Philadelphia and Chalfont, Pennsylvania. Anna was a marvelous cook, an avid reader and loved to garden.
She and her husband moved to Concord, Massachusetts in 1982 and then spent a few years in Chelmsford. At age 90 she moved back to Concord and flourished as a resident at Rivercrest while thoroughly enjoying the daily activities and, as well, the attention of a very caring staff.
Anna is survived by a daughter, Suzanne Erie and her husband, George, of Concord; a son, Andrew J. Engel of Rancho Palos Verdes, CA; two grandchildren, Brenda Nichols and Mark Erie of Concord; two great-granddaughters, Abigail and Kathryn Nichols, also of Concord; and, a sister-in-law, Elizabeth Breitenbach of Philadelphia.
