Arline J. (Manter) Leigh, age 97, of Concord, died peacefully on August 20, 2023.
Arline J. Manter was born at Emerson Hospital on September 12, 1925, a daughter to the late George and Alpha (Ruble) Manter in what was then called Concord Junction, Massachusetts. She graduated from Concord High School in 1944.
In her earlier years, she spent many summers on CuttyHunk Island. She also lived several years in Pennsylvania and Indiana.
She worked for many years as a bookkeeper. During her retirement, Arline enjoyed traveling, cross-country skiing, knitting, counted cross stitch, and getting together with classmates once a month for lunch, long after their 75th reunion. Arline volunteered to knit hats for newborns, donating time to Concord COA and attending services at Grace Chapel. Her caring demeanor allowed her to reach out and spend time with several individuals who needed companionship; however, her focus was always on family and friends.
She leaves behind her beloved husband of 45 years, John H. Leigh, as well as her daughter Jane Thoresen White and son-in-law Jonathan White, two grandchildren, Timothy White and Ashley Hough, and two great-grandchildren, Hunter Hough and Cora White. She is also survived by a sister, Virginia Hardy, of Charlton, MA, and is predeceased by her brother, Alvin Manter.
Family and friends are invited to attend a period of visitation in the Concord Funeral Home, 74 Belknap Street, Concord, on Monday, August 28, 2023, from 10:00-11:00 a.m. Her funeral service will begin at 11:00 a.m. Burial will follow at Sleepy Hollow Cemetery, Concord.
