Arthur W. “Bill” Crampton, Jr. age 86 of Concord passed away on Sunday, March 20, 2011 at Life Care Center of Nashoba Valley in Littleton with his family gathered by his side. He was the husband of Rose Mary (Stasiowski) and was predeceased by his second wife Reverend Dorothy “Mitzi” (Hill) Crampton and his first wife Nancy (Buttrick) Crampton.
Born in Boston, MA on October 25, 1924 he was the son of the late Arthur W. and Bertha (McIntyre) Crampton.
Raised and educated in Arlington, Bill graduated from Arlington High School in 1942 and then attended Northeastern University. While at Northeastern, Bill enlisted in the United States Army and was relocated to West Virginia University for specialized training and was then stationed at Camp Crowder in Missouri. Upon completion he returned to Northeastern University graduating in 1950 with a degree in Engineering.
Bill soon settled in Concord and began a long and distinguished career in instrument calibration electronics. He was employed with General Electric Radio in Cambridge working on the V-2 Rocket Project in New Mexico, Technology Instrument Corp in Acton as well as Acton Laboratories and Edwards High Vacuum.
A long time member of the Trinitarian Congregational Church in Concord, Bill was active in many church committees and volunteer groups. In addition to spending time with his family he enjoyed, gardening, photography, reading and designing and constructing a broad variety of electronic and mechanical devices
Besides his wife other surviving family members include his children, Diana Crampton Greenleaf and her husband Daniel of Manchester, NH, Douglas B. Crampton, Bruce W. Crampton and his wife Linda of Sudbury and Andrew S. Crampton and his wife Barbara of Pepperell. He is also survived by his sister Barbara Crampton Jones of Lynnfield, eight grandchildren, one great-granddaughter, stepchildren, Charles M. Ryan and his wife Jan of Austin, TX, Laurie Sullivan of Lowell, Loretta Ryan of NYC, two step grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
He was the brother of recently deceased Marion W. Crampton of Arlington.
Funeral Service, Friday, March 25th 2:00 p.m. at the Trinitarian Congregational Church, 54 Walden Street, Concord. Visiting hours, Thursday, from 4-7 at the Concord Funeral Home, Belknap & Thoreau Sts, Concord. Interment with U.S. Army Military Honors at Sleepy Hollow Cemetery, Concord.
Concord’s town flag will fly at half-staff on Friday in honor of Mr. Crampton’s service to his country during WWII.
