Barbara Frizzell Comeau

December 11, 1931 — October 27, 2013

Barbara (Frizzell) Comeau age 81 of Concord passed away peacefully on Sunday, October 27, 2013 at Emerson Hospital with her loving family by her side. She was the wife of the late Earl N. Comeau.

Born in Ferndale, Michigan on December 11, 1931 she was the daughter of the late William T. and Viola M. (Tower) Frizzell.

Barbara graduated from Waltham High School in 1949 and then attended the Boston University School of Practical Arts and Letters and the American Institute of Banking while working at the First National Bank of Boston. She also attended the Harvard University Extension School while working as a private secretary at Ucinite Company in Newton where she met her husband Earl N. Comeau.

During her married and family life they resided in Waltham, Lexington, Bedford and Concord where she was active in the Congregational Churches teaching school and serving on various boards and committees.

Barbara was active as a leader in the Girl Scouts for many years and also served on the Scout House Board in Concord. She trained and worked as a one-on-one volunteer with students in the Concord Public Schools. Other volunteer service included The New England Home for Little Wanderers as well as the Art Institute of Boston. She served as president of various Parent Teacher Organizations in Lexington, Bedford and Concord.

After studying Real Estate Investment at the Lee Institute at Bentley College and taking various related courses at Middlesex Community College, she pursued a career in Real Estate working for Foster & Foster, DeWolfe and Coldwell Banker.

At age 58 she learned to pilot a small plane and also enjoyed navigating small powerboats. Numerous summers were spent at the family's summer home in Tuftonboro, NH on Lake Winnipesaukee and in recent years at a cottage on Bailey Island located on the sea coast of Maine, which served as a retreat from the New England summer heat. Winters were spent on Marco Island and Englewood, Florida where she was a member of the Nature Conservancy, thoroughly enjoying the natural habitat of the area and resuming her interest in water-color painting and writing verse.

Barbara was also a longtime member of the Kappa Phi Sorority, the Junior Women's Club in Waltham and the Milldames in Concord.

She is survived by her seven children, Robin Comeau of Acton, Craig Comeau of Weaverville, NC, Merill Comeau of Concord, Heather Cromwell of Seattle, WA, Glenn Comeau of Englewood, FL, Dawn Comeau of Atlanta, GA and Sara Bibbo of Clinton, MA. She is also survived by her 11 grandchildren, Kendall and Austin Eifler, Nicolas and Antonio Bibbo, Colin and Louise Comeau, Bailey and Cade Comeau Hudson and Brosnan, Dalton and Tristan Comeau, as well as her brother Albert Frizzell of Carlisle and many loving nieces, nephews in Maine, NH and Vermont.
