Dan was a veteran of WWII and served in the United States Navy. After a lengthy employment as an Electrical Engineer with Raytheon in Waltham, he embraced retirement wholeheartedly, partaking of multiple volunteer opportunities. For many years he volunteered as the Museum of Science in Boston before deciding to remain closer to home.
At the Thoreau Elementary School he enjoyed helping the teachers with the second and third grade students. Dan also assisted the inmates at the Concord Reformatory to improve their education. In addition, Dan volunteered his time at the front desk at the Bedford VA Center, greeting all who entered and directing them to their destinations.
For many years he had a garden at the Community Garden in West Concord where he grew multiple types of vegetables. He especially enjoyed eating the tomatoes and canned what he couldn't eat. He also was involved with the Concord Council on Aging attending most of the activities sponsored. His pride and joy was setting up and overseeing the COA library
