David Chapin Cowen

David Chapin Cowen of Acton passed away on Thursday, April 13, 2017, at Massachusetts General Hospital, with his wife and daughter at his side.

Born in Norwalk, CT, to Frank M. Cowen and Suzanne Rothrock Cowen, David graduated from North Plainfield High School in 1971. He received his B.A. in Art History from Carleton College in 1975 and studied architecture at the University of Cincinnati from 1977-1981.

A member of both the American Institute of Architects and Boston Society of Architects, David worked as an architect and construction administrator on projects involving schools, residential homes, local and international transit facilities, churches, commercial offices and stores. David's uniquely varied professional expertise and writing prowess led him to a position as an architecture, construction, and premises safety expert for Robson Forensic. As a forensic investigator, he was well-respected by his colleagues and clients.

In his personal life, David was analytical, intelligent, and highly curious. He was a lively conversationalist, a lover of the outdoors, a self-proclaimed "independent art appraiser," and a gifted artist, remembered for his pencil sketches, woodblock prints, and portraits of friends. As a born again Christian, he took comfort in the Hope of the Return of Jesus Christ.

David was a committed partner and husband, a loving father to his three daughters, and a caring stepfather to his three stepsons. He is survived by his wife, Wendy Gomez Cowen and her sons, Isaiah, Samuel, and Elijah Gomez; his daughters, Amanda Cowen Reiser and her husband Richard, of Milltown, NJ, Elizabeth Cowen of Maynard, MA, and Caroline Cowen and her fiance Matthew Rodgers, of San Diego, CA; their mother, Kristin Boardman of Belmont, MA, as well as a brother, Frank "Rocky" Cowen of Napa Valley, CA, and two sisters, Suzanne Cowen of South Portland, ME, and Sheila Stopper of North Plainfield, NJ. He also leaves two beloved grandchildren, Ethan and Lois, in addition to other relatives and many longtime friends.

His family is very thankful to the outstanding palliative care team and staff of Lunder 9 at MGH for the excellent care he received.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend a memorial service on Saturday, May 20, 2017 at 2 PM at the Concord Funeral Home, 74 Belknap St., Concord, MA. Burial will be private.
