Donna Glendinning

July 1, 1916 — January 19, 2009

Donna Spellick Glendinning passed away Monday January 19, 2009 in Bonita Springs, FL. Born in Edinburgh, PA on July 1, 1916, she was a longtime resident of Westport, CT, and until recently, Concord MA. She was preceded in death by her husband, Bob Glendinning, in 2006.

Donna was a pioneer in women’s aviation, learning to fly in the ‘30s from touring barnstormers near her family’s Pennsylvania farm, and piloted her own airplane. There she met her husband, who was a communications officer in the Army Air Corps, and they married soon after the war. They lived in Scarsdale, NY, for several years before settling in Westport, where she was manager at Country Gal, a popular local clothing store.

She is survived by her daughter, Jean Scanlon, and her son, Rob Glendinning, and by three grandchildren: Lisa Mogolov, Robert Scanlon, and Christopher Scanlon.

Following interment, friends are invited to a Memorial Service in the First Parish in Concord, 20 Lexington Rd., Concord Center on Saturday, January 24, 2009 at a time to be announced. A reception will follow.
