Doris H. Mcclarin

October 18, 1912 — August 24, 2008

Mrs. Doris (Heisler) McClarin, age 95 of Concord, Massachusetts, passed away on Sunday, August 24, 2008, at the Rivercrest Skilled Nursing Center. She is survived by her loving husband of 68 years, William W. McClarin, Jr., of Concord.

Born and raised in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, she was the daughter of the late Henry W. and Anne (Taylor) Heisler. She was a graduate of Drexel University and worked as a legal secretary in Philadelphia for many years before starting a family. In 1948 she and her husband moved to Swarthmore, Pennsylvania, where they raised their two children. They retired to Long Beach Island, New Jersey, where they lived for twenty years before moving to Newbury Court in Concord, to be closer to their son and daughter. The McClarins moved into Newbury Court on the day that it opened in 1994. They both greatly enjoyed the activities there in which they became involved and the many wonderful friends that they made in their new home.

As a young parent, Mrs. McClarin loved being involved in her children's school and scout activities. She later enjoyed traveling with her husband, entertaining her grandchildren, and participating in many volunteer activities at the Terrace First United Methodist Church, where the McClarins worshiped in New Jersey. In middle age she had time and opportunity to develop her considerable talent as an artist, and she took great pleasure in this hobby. Her lovely paintings have been displayed at Newbury Court, and they decorate the walls of her home and those of many friends and family members.

In addition to her husband, Mrs. McClarin is survived by her son, Bill McClarin, of Twin Mountain, NH, and her daughter, Barbara Bing, of Bolton; her son-in-law, Steve Bing; and her brother, William T. Heisler, of Bellingham, WA. She is also survived by her two granddaughters, Sarah Bing-Owen of Leverett and Stephanie Bing of Maynard, and by her five great-grandchildren: Emily, Matthew, and James Owen and Nathan and Zachary Copetas.

A memorial service celebrating her life will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, September 11, 2008, in the Duvall Chapel, at the Abundant Life Communities, 80 Deaconess Rd., Concord, Massachusetts. A reception will follow at Newbury Court.

In lieu of flowers, gifts in her name may be made to the New England Deaconess Association or to the NEDA -Newbury Court Scholarship Fund, Attn: Chief Executive Officer, 80 Deaconess Rd., Concord, MA. 01742.
