Dorothy Ruth (Purinton) Bockoven

November 18, 1915 — December 21, 2017

Dorothy Ruth (Purinton) Bockoven age 102 of Lincoln passed away peacefully on Thursday, December 21, 2017 surrounded by her loving family and beloved pets. She was the wife of the late Dr. John Sanbourne Bockoven.

Dorothy Ruth Bockoven was born on November 18, 1915 to Ralph and Shirley (Morse) Purinton in their hilltop farmhouse, Bristol, Vermont. Dorothy had two brothers and two sisters. She graduated salutatorian from high school and valedictorian from Mary Fletcher Nursing School.

Dorothy married her husband of 65 years following a two week courtship. She wholeheartedly supported him in fulfilling his career goals and lovingly cared for him until the time of his death. She also devoted herself to the rearing of six children. Her fierce commitment to their welfare is legendary. She was talented in everything she sought to accomplish. These ranged from seal-coating the driveway, helping the kids with homework, nursing them through many illnesses, mowing a 2-acre lawn, making delicious pies from scratch, showing her kids how to milk a cow and saddle a horse, to staining every shingle of their three story home.

Dorothy's legacy of good cheer and enduring happiness, genuine pleasure enjoying the company of others whether strangers or old friends, and an ongoing gratitude for her many blessings will inspire and strengthen loved ones and friends for generations to come. It is a source of abiding joy to those that knew and loved her knowing she is at her new eternal home in heaven with her savior, Jesus Christ. She will be deeply missed, but her cheerful smile will live on forever.

She is survived by her children, John S. Bockoven, Jr. of Lincoln, Shirley Bockoven and her husband Mark Weafer of Hamilton, William P. Bockoven and his wife Susan of Louisville, Kentucky, Frank R. Bockoven of Waltham, Peter M. Bockoven and his wife Christine of Sahuarita, Arizona, and Ralph C. Bockoven and wife Karen of Acton.
