Dorothy Grace (Schlamann) Morgan

Dorothy Grace (Schlamann) Morgan, of Concord, Massachusetts, formerly of Sudbury, MA passed away at the age of 89 on Thursday, December 29 from surgical complications. Wife of the late William A. (Bill) Morgan, Jr., to whom she was married for 60 years and with whom she raised three children, she was at home, surrounded by her family. Dorothy often said she was blessed with a wonderful life filled with family, many long-time friends, especially in Massachusetts and Florida, world travel with Bill, and public service through her nursing or life-long volunteer work.

Dorothy grew up in Webster, South Dakota, the youngest of eight children born to William and Mary (Battig) Schlamann. She graduated from the Presentation School of Nursing in Aberdeen, South Dakota, and moved to Rapid City to pursue her nursing career. It was in Rapid City that she met and, in 1952, married Bill, who was stationed at Ellsworth AFB during the Korean Conflict.

She followed Bill to Indiana and then to Massachusetts, where they lived in Sudbury and attended the Sudbury United Methodist Church for 37 years. Dorothy's last nursing job was at the Sudbury Pines Nursing Home, retiring in 1992 before she and Bill moved to Weeki Wachee, Florida, in 1995. They enjoyed a wonderful 16 years in Florida, where they devoted time to public service, made many more dear friends, enjoyed entertaining family and friends, and were members of the Mariner United Methodist Church. During the spring of 2012, Dorothy and Bill returned to Massachusetts to be nearer to children and grandchildren.

Throughout her life, three things were most important to Dorothy: her family, her faith and caring for others. Over the years of her membership at the Sudbury United Methodist Church, she was the Sunday School Superintendant, the President of the United Methodist Women's group, and a major contributor at the annual Fall Church Fair. Her life of service continued in Florida, where she loved being part of the church's bi-annual rummage sales. She enjoyed cooking, entertaining, family vacations, playing Bridge, and her grandsons—especially rooting them on at their sporting events and celebrating their academic and personal achievements.

She is survived by her daughter Susan J. M. Cabler and her husband Hank, of Annandale, VA; her son William T. Morgan and his wife Donna, of Westminster, MA; her daughter Sarah A. M. Taylor and her husband Herb, of Cambridge, MA; grandsons Adom J. Pond, Benjamin A, Taylor, William O. Morgan, Dillon T. Morgan, and Blaine M. Taylor; and sister-in-law Ann R. Morgan of Hawley, PA.

She is preceded in death by her beloved husband Bill; her parents William and Mary Schlamann; sisters Ethel (Schlamann) Peterson, Lisette (Schlamann) Johnson and Edna Louise (Schlamann) Wilkinson; brothers Henry Schlamann, Ervin Schlamann, Rudolph Schlamann, and Baldwin Schlamann.

A Memorial Service will be held on Sunday, January 8 at 3:30 p.m., at the Sudbury United Methodist Church, 251 Old Sudbury Road, Sudbury, MA.
