Eleanor (Murphy) Jackson age 86 of Concord passed away peacefully on Wednesday, May 5, 2010 at Walden Rehabilitation and Nursing Center. She was the loving and devoted wife of Randolph “Randy” Jackson.
Born in Boston, MA on August 8, 1923. After graduating from East Boston High School, Eleanor began work as a telephone operator. She was also a hostess for the USO during World War II, where she met her husband of 65 years on a blind date that ended in a proposal. After a whirlwind six week courtship, she married her handsome sailor, Randy, on October 1, 1944.
During the early part of their marriage, Eleanor and Randy lived in Falmouth, MA, leading to a lifelong love of the Cape. After leaving Falmouth, they moved to Groton, CT, and Somerville, MA before settling in Concord, MA, where she worked in the Concord Public Schools for 35 years. Eleanor was an expert knitter, a Girl Scout leader, and bowling league champion. During her retirement, she also delivered Meals on Wheels.
Eleanor will be remembered by her family for many things, but most importantly for her patience, loyalty, caring nature, and fine sense of humor. She will be sorely missed by all of her family and friends.
Besides her husband Randy, she is also survived by her loving daughters Beverly and her husband Frank Sherman of Westford, and Patricia and her husband Stephen Boyle of Concord, her grandchildren Susan and her husband Jay Saboliauskas, Katherine, Andrew, Rachel, Amy, and Laura, and her great-grandchildren Alexander, Allison, Caitlin, and Jack.
