Elizabeth (Liz ) Owens Waugh passed on June 5, 2018 of early onset dementia at Life Care Center of Nashoba Valley in Littleton MA. She leaves her husband Warren F. Waugh Jr of Gloucester MA and her two loving daughters Kate Waugh and Molly Ross both of Littleton MA. She was adored by both her sons-in-law Bobby Currie who is married to Kate and Mark Ross who is Molly's husband. She was predeceased by her mom and dad Elizabeth (Betsy) Owens and C. Clifton Owens.
Liz grew up in Concord and graduated from CCHS. She lived both on Lapham Road and Deer Grass Lane. She also graduated from Pine Manor and Wheelock Colleges with a degree in early childhood education. Her career path led her into the hi-tech world with Digital Equipment Corporation and Data General in the late 70's and early 80's. Her real love was her part-time work with the Concord Montessori School. In 1984 Kate was born and Liz elected to be a stay at home mom and Molly joined the family in 1987. She loved her daughters like all great mom's do, and yet Kate and Molly shared not just a love for their mom... the three were inseparable. Warm summers at Concord Country Club in the pool and vacations on Cape Cod were cherished by Liz and the girls. She was a lover of great Rock & Roll and was convinced she turned her friends on to Country Music before "it was a thing." She had a passion for Key West, the people, the lifestyle, and a little island in the harbor called Sunset Key. She raised several golden retrievers named Hobie, Wren, Jessie and finally Jack and Jill who were by her side until end. In later years Liz joined Warren in many philanthropic efforts such as helping with the Beede Center development, The Susan G. Komen Foundation, The Torigian YMCA and finally, but never knowing, the Alzheimer's Association.
Liz would be so proud that her family has raised and donated hundreds of thousand's of dollars towards research to benefit the Alzheimer's Association to find a cure for the disease and provide help and support for caregivers . Liz spent her last three years in the memory care clinic at the Life Care Center of Nashoba Valley. Her quick wit won over the staff from the get-go and she will be missed by the incredible professionals who made her life so amazingly dignified and full of fun, music and love. Liz's personal caregiver Cherry MacDonald of Billerica cared for Liz full-time for more than 5 years and kept Liz safe as they enjoyed adventures on Cape Cod, restaurants around Concord, and at every shopping Mall in greater Boston.
Liz's life was celebrated at Warren's home on Mussel Point with family, friends, and colleagues on June 11th with the ocean crashing in the background and stories of Liz, her humor and love for her family, and her pets.
Please help us stop this terrible disease by making a donation in Liz's memory to: The Alzheimer's Association of NH and MA, 309 Waverly Oaks Road, Waltham MA 02453.
