Elsie E. (Craig) Hancock

Elsie E. (Craig) Hancock age 89 and long-time resident of Acton passed away on Wednesday, October 12, 2022 with her loving family by her side.  She was the beloved wife of the late James B. Hancock who died in 2015.

Elsie Eugenia Craig was born in Newton, Massachusetts on August 4, 1933 and was the daughter of the late Waldo and Nellie MacRae Craig.  Elise graduated from Concord Carlisle High School with the class of 1951 and later attended Mt. Ida College where she graduated in the Nursing Program as a Licensed Practical Nurse.  Elsie and Jim married on June 26, 1955 and purchased their home in Acton where together they raised their loving children.

For many years Elsie worked as a talented florist, she truly enjoyed creating many custom floral tributes that were both admired and enjoyed by many.  Elsie’s home and family were her focus in life.  Her kind, generous, loving smile was admired by all who knew her.  She loved music and would play the organ for the enjoyment of family and friends often in her home.  In 2019 Elsie was the first resident to move into The Branches of Marlborough in Marlborough, MA where she joined a new residential community that embraced her for all her positive attributes.  She enjoyed doing crafts, attending the musical performances, chatting with staff and residents, and sitting on the patio enjoying the sunshine and conversation with friends.

She is survived by her children Ellen Blake and husband Michael, Charles Hancock and wife Kimela, Mark Hancock and wife Hayley, Linda Creamer and husband Stephen and Mary Scully and husband Brian.  She is also survived by her grandchildren, Adam Blake, Dana Blake, Rebecca Bauman, Kenneth Hancock, Kendall Hancock, Kara Hancock, James Hancock, Kevin Creamer, Courtney Shoro, Kelsey Scerra, Theresa Scully, Sharon Nau and Joseph Scully; and great-grandchildren Kylee & Darren Bauman, Jaxon & Dylan Hancock, John (deceased), Ryan & Jack Shoro, Stephen Scerra and Elizabeth Nau.  She is survived by her brother Russell Craig of Sisters, Oregon and her sisters Joyce Wilson, of Somerset, Massachusetts, Carol Loveland of Norwich, Vermont, and Wendy Roy of Acton, MA. She was predeceased by her sister Shirley Schwartz.

Family and friends will gather to honor and remember Elsie for visiting hours on Monday, October 17, 2022 from 4:00-7:00 pm at the Concord Funeral Home, 74 Belknap St., Concord.  Her funeral mass will be celebrated on Tuesday, October 18, 2022 at 10:30 am at Holy Family Parish, Monument Square, Concord.  Burial will follow at Mt. Hope Cemetery, Acton.

In lieu of flowers, donations in her memory may be made to Faith & Family Hospice, Marlborough, MA, or a charity of your choice.
