Frances Kunlewyez Baranchuk

May 25, 1925 — August 24, 2014

Frances (Fedosia) Baranchuk, resident of Bright View Concord River in Billerica, MA and formerly of East Northport, NY, passed away peacefully at the Miriam Boyd Parlin Hospice Residence in Wayland, MA on August 24, 2014. She was the widow of Michael (Mychajlo) Baranchuk and was also pre-deceased by her son, William (Wladimir). Frances is survived by her daughter, Maria, son-in-law Nelson R. (Jay) Powers Jr., and grandchildren Nelson R. (Trey) Powers III and Ainsleigh Caron Powers, all of Concord, MA.

Born on May 25, 1925 in Poland, Frances immigrated to Brooklyn, NY at the conclusion of World War II with her husband and son. After saving money to purchase a plot of land in former potato fields on Long Island, the young couple worked tirelessly to build their own home where Frances would happily reside for over 55 years before moving to Massachusetts.

Although the war interrupted her quest to become a schoolteacher, Frances contentedly worked as a seamstress for many years. In 1977, she began working part-time in the Northport/East Northport School District cafeterias, retiring at the age of 79 after 27 years of dedicated service. Frances firmly believed that all the many schoolchildren she encountered over the years helped to keep her youthful and happy.

An excellent cook and avid gardener, Frances also loved to sew, knit, and crochet, and was particularly noted for the many unique aprons she would craft for work in the cafeteria. She created countless outfits, blankets, hats, scarves, gloves, and socks for family and friends as well. The gifts of her hands truly were gifts of her heart.

Frances overcame great adversity throughout her life, managing to maintain her spirit of survival through deep faith, a strong work ethic, and her steadfast love of family. She is already missed by all those who knew her.
