Frances Roche Brown, 89, of Concord, died in her home, surrounded by her family on March 28.
Born in New York City, November 26, 1923, she was the daughter of the late Elizabeth (White) Roche and Harding S. Roche. Raised in Short Hills, NJ and Baltimore, MD, she was a graduate of the Friends School of Baltimore and Wellesley College, class of 1944.
Mrs. Brown was an avid tennis player, gardener and bridge player. She was a member of the Concord Country Club where she played tennis and golf. She cherished her 60 years as a resident of Concord and the many friends she and Curtiss, her late husband of 55 years, made here.
She was an active member and past president of the Concord Garden Club. Her beautiful gardens were frequently part of the Annual Garden Club Tour. Her orchid display was awarded first place in the 1993 Massachusetts Horticultural Society New England Spring Flower Show. She was a longtime member and volunteer of the Friends of the Concord Free Public Library and the Concord Museum. She had also been involved in a number of land conservation efforts in Concord.
Mrs. Brown was the devoted wife of the late Curtiss Foss Brown and loving mother of Penny Brown and her husband, James Rothendler, of Newton, Lucy Brown of Madison, WI, Sandra Brown-Casey and her husband, Paul Casey of Cape Elizabeth, ME, Elliott Brown of Langhorne, PA, and David Brown and his wife, Holly, of Lafayette, CO. She leaves 7 grandchildren, Rachel, Jonathan and Matthew Rothendler, Rose Brown, and Kyle, Casey, and Chase Brown.
Her life will be celebrated with family and friends at a gathering at her home and garden at 1200 Lowell Rd., Concord, MA on Saturday, June 15 at 11:30 am
