Frederick S. Jones

Frederick S. Jones, II age 79 of Concord passed away on Saturday, November 7, 2009 at Life Care Center of Acton. He was the husband of Karen (Niecke) Jones and the late Sona M. (Tatoian) Jones.

Born in Winnetka, Illinois on February 8, 1930 he was the son of the late George G. and Margaret (Shepardson) Jones.

Mr. Jones was the fourth generation to attend and graduate from Yale University. He earned his Masters Degree in Library Science. In 1948 he enlisted in the United States Navy serving 2 years.

Mr. Jones settled in Concord and was employed with Star Market Company and later enrolled at Simmons College to further his education in Library Services. Upon completion, he began a long and successful tenure as Research Librarian at Tufts University.

During is spare time, Mr. Jones enjoyed volunteering for the local Meals-On-Wheels program as well as the Concord Free Public Library. He was also known as “Mr. Handyman” of Concord Village.

Along with his wife, he was the proud father of Frederick S. Jones, III of Carlsbad, CA and brother of Margaret J. Barlow of Duxbury and the late Jane C. Rogers. His grandchildren include Chloe M., Calder F., Zaiden A., and Lucia S. Jones as well as several nieces and nephews.

Concord’s Town Flag will flay at half-staff on Thursday, November 12, 2009 in honor of Mr. Jones service in the United States Navy.
