George Gregory Grainger

December 14, 1963 — April 24, 2015

George Gregory Grainger, 51, of Weddington, N.C, passed away suddenly Friday, the 24th of April 2015 in a boating accident. Greg was born in Ottawa, Ontario (Canada) on the 14th of December 1963 to David and Patricia Grainger of Concord, MA. He spent his early years in New Jersey, Georgia, England (UK), and Concord, Massachusetts. He relocated to the Charlotte area in 1988.

Greg studied at Northeastern University in Boston and spent more than 25 years of his professional life as an executive in the merchant card services industry. It was during this time that Greg built two Charlotte- based companies, for which he served as the CEO and later successfully sold both to large US-based banks.

Greg will be missed dearly by his family and friends in both the United States & Canada. Greg was a wonderful man who was filled with lots of charm and charisma while always looking out for the next adventure. In particular Greg loved to spend time with his children, grandchildren, nieces and nephews. Greg was a loyal and giving brother and friend, just a big likeable bear to those who knew him well. Greg's favorite activities were golfing, fishing, fine dining, travel and socializing with his family. He fell in love with Charleston, South Carolina over the last few years where he became passionate for boating and ocean activities. Charleston brought a smile to Greg's face and he always looked forward to his time on the water and taking in the sun.

Greg was a member of the Hood Hargett Breakfast Club and Piper Glen Country Club, where he was regularly involved in community service activities and sponsorship fundraising initiatives. His caring nature was further reflected through his generous support of various community involvement and non-profit organizations including Wounded Warriors and the Make a Wish Foundation.

An avid, award-winning golfer, he and his dad were the champions of the Piper Glen Member-Guest Tournament in Charlotte, NC for two consecutive years, and the Nashawtuc Invitational in Concord, Massachusetts.

Greg is survived by his wife of 26 years, Kelly Grainger of Weddington, NC; daughters Jessica Grainger of Weddington, NC, Ashley Couick and husband Travis of Monroe, NC; grandchildren Austin and Kayla; parents, David and Patricia Grainger of Concord, MA; brothers David Jr. and Evelyn Grainger of Lexington, MA, Bruce and Cyndy Grainger of Charlotte, NC, Brian and Leigh Grainger of Waxhaw, NC; and twelve nieces and nephews.

A service to celebrate his life was held Tuesday, April 28 in North Carolina.

Interment was held Saturday, May 2nd in the family lot in Sleepy Hollow Cemetery, Concord, Massachusetts
