Grace Virginia (Hopkins) Magazu

Grace Virginia (Hopkins) Magazu age 87 of Concord passed away on Tuesday, February 13, 2018 at Brigham and Women's Hospital. She was the beloved and devoted wife of 63 years to Vincent J. Magazu.

Grace was born in Somerville on October 30, 1930 a daughter of the late Michael Joseph and Agnes Louise (Lavey) Hopkins. Raised and educated in Belmont, Grace graduated from Belmont High School with the class of 1948. She later graduated from Mt. Ida College in Newton. It was on May 14, 1955 at St. Luke's Church in Belmont she married Vincent and in 1958 moved to Concord where together they would raise their family.

Family was the center of her life. Grace was a devoted wife, mother and homemaker, she was always there for her children and grandchildren and cherished the time spent with her loving family the most. She was a wonderful cook and delightful hostess; holiday and family gatherings were always blessed with her presence.

A devout Catholic, she had a strong faith and involvement with church. She was often found baking for church social gatherings and supported many religious events and programs. Grace had a beautiful singing voice and spent many years singing in the choir. Also, she was a talented artist and expressed this creativity by preparing beautiful meals, imaginative baking and hand painted gifts.

Along with her husband she is survived by her children, Arthur D. and his wife Brenda of Manchester, NH, Aimee Magazu of Gardner, Chris M. and his wife Lee of S. Weymouth, Mark H. of West Roxbury and Jeanne P. Magazu of Danvers. Cherished grandmother of Matthew Michael, Allyson Morgan and Nolan Vincent Magazu. Also survived by her sister in-law Alice Hopkins of Bethel, ME and many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her grandson Michael Joseph, her sisters, Mary Gallagher, Elizabeth Jeanne Nichols, Gloria Fogarty and her brothers Joseph J. and William F. Hopkins.

Family and friends will gather to honor and remember Grace for calling hours on Sat., Feb. 17 from 9:00-11:00 am in St. Michael Parish, 90 Concord Rd. Bedford. Her funeral mass will be celebrated at 11:00 am. Burial will follow at St. Bernard's Cemetery, Concord.
