Helen C. Zagata

Helen C. (Obremski) Zagata age 92 of Concord formerly Ft. Myers, FL and Rexford, NY passed away on Thursday, October 22, 2009 at Genesis Westford House. She was the wife of the late John J. Zagata

Born in Schenectady on August 12, 1917 she was the daughter of Polish immigrants Antonio and Sadi (Kalwowski) Obremski.

Raised and educated in Schenectady, Mrs. Zagata soon married and settled in Rexford, NY.

Along with being a devoted wife and mother Helen was employed by General Electric Manufacturing Co. in Schenectady, NY during WWII, Tuckers Woman’ Apparel and several food service departments including the cafeteria at Union College, Edison Country Club and the Shenendehowa Central School District. Upon her retirement in 1984 she moved to Ft. Myers, Florida and in 2003 relocated to Concord, MA.

During her spare time she enjoyed travel, bowling, bingo, horse races at Saratoga with her dear friend Harriet, speed boating on the Sacandaga Reservoir and cooking fresh vegetables from the garden as well as roasts and hams for loving husband John.

She was the proud mother of John “Jake” Zagata and his wife Kathleen and her loving grandsons Brian and Mark Zagata all of Concord who affectionately called her “Bopchi”. She was also the sister of Betty Burke and the late Jessie McConnell, Lena Grosky, Mary Rychcik and Chester Obremski who died in combat in Okinowa during WWII.
