Hunter Lee McDowell

June 10, 1927 — March 22, 2022

Hunter L. McDowell of Concord died on March 22, 2022. He was 94. Mr. McDowell was the husband of (the late) Day B. McDowell and the father of Robert McDowell, both of Concord, MA. He has been a resident of the town since 1972.

Mr. McDowell was the son of Col. John M. McDowell of Washington, D.C. and Wilhelmina (Hoefman) McDowell, last of Acton, MA. He received the Bachelor of Electrical Engineering degree from Cornell University in 1948. Subsequently he was employed at the Bell Telephone Laboratories in Murray Hill, N.J. where he was engaged in the development of microwave transmitting devices for radio relay communication systems. In 1959 he joined SFD Laboratories in Union, N.J. where he became engaged in the development of high-power microwave transmitting devices for military systems. In 1972 he moved with the firm to Beverly, MA, where it became part of Varian Associates and subsequently part of Communications and Power Industries. He retired in 1996 and subsequently served as a consultant for several years.

The funeral service was private.
