Jacqueline Delahanty

December 5, 1928 — January 12, 2019

Jacqueline Delahanty, age 90, died peacefully in her home surrounded by her children on January 12, 2019.

Born on December 5,1928 in Douglaston, Queens, N.Y. She was the youngest of four children of Caroline and Edward Murphy. After marrying the love of her life, Donald Delahanty, in September 1952, the couple moved to Iowa for Donald's medical residency and to begin their life together. In 1956, they moved back east, settling in Auburn, NY, and Jacqueline left nursing to devote herself fully to raising their nine children.

Jacqueline was a graduate of Our Lady of Mercy Academy in Syosset, Long Island and the Flushing Hospital School of Nurses in Queens and worked for a time as a pediatric nurse. While raising her family in Auburn, she enjoyed being an auxiliary member of Auburn Memorial Hospital and a volunteer for Meals on Wheels and many other charitable organizations. Jacqueline was active with the local schools, Merry-Go-Round Theater, and was a communicant of Holy Family, St. Ann's and Sacred Heart churches.

She loved her home at Wide Waters on Owasco Lake where she enjoyed sailing, boating, swimming and family gatherings. She cherished the many friendships she made while bowling and playing bridge and tennis. In 2016, Donald and Jacqueline left Auburn and moved to an Assisted Living facility near family in Winchester, MA.

Jacqueline was predeceased by her husband of 65 years, Donald, who passed away in November 2017. She is survived by her nine children, Brian, K.C., Meg, Cathy, Molly, Skip, Patty, Susan and Robert, as well as 17 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.

The family is planning a private ceremony to honor and celebrate the lives of both Donald and Jacqueline
