James Newman Walpole –age 79 of Concord passed away on Wednesday, March 28, 2018 at Massachusetts General Hospital. He was the beloved husband of 48 years of Judith (Judy) Ray Walpole.
Born on February 27, 1939 in Brownsville, Tenn. to Dorothy and Newman Walpole
Jim graduated from Duke University with a B.S. in Electrical Engineering and received a Master's and Ph.D. from M.I.T. Jim taught at M.I.T. later spending most of his career at M.I.T. Lincoln Laboratory where as a staff member, he received a number of patents and authored many papers in scientific journals. He was a longtime Fellow of the Institute of Electrical and Electronic Engineers.
Along with his wife Judy, he is survived by his loving children, Jeffrey Walpole and his wife Taryn of Arlington, VA and Margaret (Meg) Walpole Shore and her husband, Michael of Northbrook, IL and his cherished grandchildren Quinn and William (Beckett) Walpole and Matthew and Allison Shore. Jim was predeceased by sisters, Betty Walpole Rainey and Dorothy (Ann) Walpole Clements.
Family and friends will gather to honor and remember Jim on Friday, April 6, at 11:00 am in the Trinitarian Congregational Church. 54 Walden Street, Concord.
