John Edward Holt

May 12, 1919 — April 11, 2008

John Edward Holt, age 88, a long time resident of Concord, passed away on Friday, April 11, 2008 at Emerson Hospital. He was the husband of Annie (Rand) Fay Holt of Concord.

Born in Bethel, Maine on May 12, 1919, he was the son of the late William and Susan (Bean) Holt. Raised and educated in Maine he graduated from Gould Academy and then enlisted in the U.S. Armed Forces during WWII. He served in the South Pacific with the 1913 Aviation Engineers.

Upon his return home Mr. Holt settled in Concord and he worked as a CLU insurance broker for Northwestern Mutual Life serving many local families.

He was a longtime and dedicated member of the West Concord Union Church, participating in many church activities. Mr. Holt was also a member of the Corinthian Lodge A.F.& A.M, Concord, and the Shrine, Boston.

During his spare time he enjoyed travel in Canada and Europe and raising and training Quarter Horses. He excelled in trail riding. He was also an avid Red Sox fan.

Besides his wife, he is survived by two sons, Wayne Holt of Chelmsford and William P. Holt of Templeton, and two stepsons, Park and Steven Fay, both of Boston. He is also survived by 11 grandchildren, 5 great-grandchildren, a brother Francis Holt of Seattle, Washington, and many nieces and nephews. He was also the brother of the late Earle, Ruth, Joseph, Dollie, Raymond, and Donald Holt.

A funeral service will be held at the West Concord Union Church, 1317 Main St., Concord, on Saturday, April 26th at 11:00 a.m. United States Army Military Honors will follow the service. Interment in Union Cemetery, Laconia, NH will be private.

Concord's Town Flag will fly at half-staff in honor of Mr. Holt's service to his country during World War II.
