Josephine "Jo" Freeman (Carlson) Clark

December 23, 1929 — March 23, 2015

After a wonderful life, Josephine ("Jo") Freeman (Carlson) Clark age 85 of Concord passed away peacefully on Monday, March 23rd surrounded by her loving family.

Born in Cambridge and raised in Belmont she was the daughter of the late John E. and Josephine F. (Cogswell) Carlson. After graduating from Belmont Senior High School in 1948, Jo attended Colby Junior College earning an Associate in Arts degree in 1950.

After raising her family in Lincoln and Wellesley, Jo spent many years as a nanny for infants and children. She maintained relationships with many of these families throughout her life. Her love of the ocean led her to live in Ipswich for many years. In her later years she moved to Concord to be closer to her children and grandchildren. During this time Jo fell in love with Ogunquit (ME) and traveled there several times each year. Her favorite place in Ogunquit was the Marginal Way, a beautiful mile long path along the ocean.

Jo was a member of many organizations, groups and social committees throughout her life. Bridge, knitting, arts & crafts, reading and her Swedish ancestry were among her favorites. She took special pride in knitting prayer shawls, baby blankets, newborn hats and graduation scarves with the knitting group at The Wellesley Hills Congregational Church. She had an always growing circle of friends wherever she went.

Jo is survived by her children, Sharon Ann Clark of Sudbury, Susan Clark McMahon of Acton and Theodore Allen Clark and his wife Cheri of Wellesley Hills, her grandchildren, Amanda Susan Clark, Conner Allen Clark and Devin Allen McMahon and her brother John Edwin Carlson Jr. and his wife Margaret of Hancock, NH. She was also the sister of the late Henry Honeywell Carlson and is survived by her sister-in-law Catherine "Kitty" Carlson of Hubbardston. Jo is also survived by many loving cousins, nieces and nephews.

Family and friends are invited to a celebration of Jo's life on Saturday, June 13th, at 2:30pm in the Wellesley Hills Congregational Church, 207 Washington Street, Wellesley Hills, MA. A reception at the church will follow.
