Mrs. Lillian E. Valentine of Worcester, MA died peacefully in her sleep at Autumn Village Skilled Nursing and Rehab Clinic on June 12th, 2012, her 91st birthday, from complications following a stroke on April 30th.
She was born in 1921, the daughter of Hilja and Antti Aalto of Viipuri, Finland, and was predeceased by her sister Irene and brothers Arthur and Leo. She is survived by her four sons Mr. Arthur D. Valentine and his wife Sabrina of San Jose, CA, Dr. Henry R. Valentine and his wife Linda of Lunenburg, MA, Mr. Peter W. Valentine and his wife Rosy of Fontana, CA, Mr. Michael D. Valentine of Worcester, MA, with whom she lived, and her daughter Dr. Elizabeth A. Valentine-Thon of Parlin, NJ and Germany, ten grandchildren, six great grandchildren, and one great great grandchild.
Mrs. Valentine's native language was Finnish but she quickly learned English at school and became a linguistic perfectionist, a trait passed on to her children. She attended college prep and graduated from Commerce High School. Later she married the late Mr. Henry D. Valentine, Jr. For several years she worked as a medical secretary in various Worcester hospitals and was later employed at Norton Company until the birth of her first son. After that, she dedicated her life to the loving care and education of her five children.
Mrs. Valentine had a propensity for composing poems, baking banana cake, repairing the broken wings of wild birds, propounding theories about everything, and being right in most arguments. To the end she remained curious, coherent, and communicative. She will be deeply missed by all those who loved her.
Arrangements under the care of Glenn D. Burlamachi, CONCORD FUNERAL HOME.
