Lucy Walker

February 23, 1926 — July 20, 2008

Lucy A. (Amende) Walker, age 82 of Acton, passed away at Emerson Hospital on Sunday, July 20, 2008.�She was, and will always be, the beloved wife of Carlton J. Walker Jr.�They were married for 60 years.

Born in Providence, RI on February 23, 1926, she was the daughter of the late Arthur and Grace V. (England) Amende.�Raised and educated in Providence, Lucy attended the three year nursing program at Pawtucket Memorial Hospital as a U.S. Government sponsored WWII Cadet nursing student.�

Upon graduating she married Carl at the Church of the Advent in Boston, MA on November 24, 1948, and they made their home in Somerville, MA.�In subsequent years the family moved to the MIT campus; North Canton, Ohio; Stoughton, MA; Chatham, NJ; The Hague, The Netherlands; Westfield, NJ; Concord, MA; and Amherst, NH, before settling into their current home in Acton.

Lucy was a faithful and active member of St. Anne's In-The-Fields Episcopal Church in Lincoln, MA where she participated in the weekly service as well as the Altar Guild and the Service League.�More than anything she enjoyed spending time with her husband and family, and was a constant source of love, strength, support, and guidance for her children, grandchildren, and many friends. During her spare time she also loved cooking, reading, and knitting.

While raising young children in Stoughton she was a Cub Scout Den Mother and Camp Fire Girls leader.�She and Carl also served as Sunday School teachers at the Church of the Advent in Boston, MA.�In New Jersey she served as president of St. Andrew's Episcopal Church Altar Guild in Murray Hill, NJ, and was an active member of Overlook Hospital's "TWIG" volunteer organization in Summit, NJ.�In Holland she was an active member of the Women's Guild of the American Protestant Church of The Hague.

Besides her husband she is survived by her children, Carlton Jeffrey Walker of Port Deposit, MD and Leslie Walker Gabrilska of Townsend.�She was also the beloved and devoted grandmother of Carlton James Walker III of Pittsburgh, PA, Julie Beth Gabrilska, Meredith Corey Gabrilska, and Timothy Walker Gabrilska, all of Townsend, and the sister of the late Ruth AmEnde Roosa.

A funeral service will be held on Friday, July 25 at 11:00 a.m. in St. Anne's-In-The-Fields, 147 Concord Rd. (Rte 126), Lincoln.�Interment will follow at approximately 2:00 p.m. in Highland Memorial Park, 1 Rhode Island Ave., Johnston, RI.
