Margaret “Peggy” Coughlin Powell, age 93, of Concord formerly of Peru, VT passed away on Thursday, June 1, 2023 in Lincoln, MA. Predeceased in 2015 by her loving husband of 62 years Willard “Will” Powell.
Born on April 6, 1930, in Wilkes-Barre, PA she was raised in Kingston, PA and at Apple Hill in Dallas, PA. Peggy was the youngest of three siblings and the loving daughter of the late Hale S. and Margaret Hoffa Coughlin. Peggy attended Wilkes-Barre Day School and graduated from Skidmore College in 1952.
Peggy and Will raised their four sons in Chappaqua, NY. During the 22 years there, she developed lifelong friends whose families joined together for adventurous ski weekends. She also enjoyed playing tennis and bridge, in addition to attending her children’s numerous sporting events.
In 1982, Peggy and Will moved to an antique house they called “The Meeting Point Inn” in Peru, VT and created a wonderful home where large family gatherings were a highlight. The Powells were active in the Peru, VT community and long-time members of the Peru Congregational Church. They also enjoyed skiing with The Silver Griffins at Bromley Mountain.
Peggy passed on her love for snow and winter sports to her children and grandchildren. Whether cross-country skiing, walking her much-love dogs, gardening or simply sitting with her face turned to the sun, Peggy loved being out in nature.
In 2018 she moved to Newbury Court in Concord, MA to be near her sons. More recently she moved to The Commons in Lincoln, MA. Her family is grateful to the staff at both Newbury Court and The Commons for their commitment, kindness and care.
Peggy is survived by her sons and daughters-in-law, Scott Powell and wife Pam, Doug Powell and wife Valerie, Greg Powell and wife Carol and Ridge Powell and wife Fran. She is also survived by her eight grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
