Marguerite Barrett O'Connell passed away peacefully at her home in Seekonk, Massachusetts on Sunday, August 4, 2013, at the age of 83. Marguerite was the beloved wife of Robert O'Connell to whom she had been married for 59 years.
Marguerite, the daughter of the late George and Marguerite (Gallagher) Barrett was born and raised in Concord, Massachusetts where she was Salutatorian of the Concord-Carlisle High School graduating class of 1948.
Following high school, Marguerite attended Massachusetts General Hospital School of Nursing where she received her R.N. degree in 1950. She began her nursing career at Emerson Hospital in Concord and also worked at the Veteran's Hospital in Jamaica Plain and the Tockwotten Nursing Home in Providence, R.I.
In 1954 Marguerite married the love of her life, Robert O'Connell. They moved to Seekonk, Massachusetts, in 1966, where they would live for the next 47 years, raising their four children.
Beside her husband she is survived by her children Robert, Jr. and his wife Lynn (Hamilton) of Arlington, VA.; Kevin of Marshfield Hills, MA and Cairo, Egypt; Nancy O'Connell Phillips of Taunton and Brian and his wife Mary (Carvalho) of Rehoboth, MA.
As important as her husband and children were to her, nothing brought more joy to Marguerite's life than her four grandchildren. "Nanny" as she was affectionately called, was the light in the life of Ian O'Connell Phillips, Jonathan O'Connell, Emma O'Connell and Joan Marie O'Connell. Nanny was there to attend every school, sport, and social event and always had an ever lasting supply of love and affection.
She is also survived by brothers-in-law Russell Palmer of Seminole, Fla. and Palo Peirce of Acton and Falmouth and many cherished nieces and nephews. She was the sister of the late Eileen Peirce and George Barrett.
The O'Connell family would like to thank Concord Home, Health Services of R.I and Gentiva Hospice for their wonderful devotion and care of both Marguerite and Robert during the past two years.
