Marion Holton Pohl

November 24, 1936 — April 16, 2016

Marion Holton Pohl of Concord, at age 79 and after a protracted illness, departed this earth in peace in the company of her husband in the early hours of the morning of Saturday, April 16th, at her home.

Marion was born on November 24th, 1936 to Marion and Nicholas Holton in South Amboy, New Jersey, in the heart of The Great Depression, whose effects helped shape her personal ethos of modesty and humility. Marion grew up entertaining herself, her friends and her family playing the piano, ukulele, guitar and any other musical medium that she could lay her hands on (including the resourceful use of aluminum foil on the soundboard of the piano to create that tinny "saloon" effect when circumstances and repertoire warranted). She also took great joy in literature, art and the company of friends. These interests accompanied and enriched her through her life and informed the values she passed on to her children. In 1958 she married her high school sweetheart, Raymond Pohl, moved to Wilmington, Delaware and began her life as a mother. Post-children she obtained her bachelor's degree in music from the University of Delaware circa 1982.

She relished her children, grandchildren and the company of friends. Marion is survived by her sons Ray and Mark, and her daughter Lisa as well as seven grandchildren; Camille, Olive, Otis Truman, Naomi, Phoebe, Isabella and Violet. Although she and her husband had divorced many years before, they miraculously maintained a loving friendship for decades, culminating in Raymond's constant bedside care and affection in the final stages of Marion's illness.

She is pre-deceased by her two brothers, Richard and Robert, both of South Amboy, New Jersey.

Family and friends gathered to celebrate Marion's life and radiance on Saturday, April 23rd from 11:00 am to 12:00 pm at The Concord Funeral Home, Belknap and Thoreau Streets, Concord. A service will follow at 12:00 noon

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Friends of the Performing Arts, 51 Walden St., Concord MA 01742
