Marjorie C. (Bartlett) Archibald

June 2, 1943 — April 4, 2016

Marjorie C. (Bartlett) Archibald, age 72 of Concord, passed away peacefully on Monday, April 4, 2016. She was the loving wife of Dr. John W. Archibald.

On June 2, 1943, Marjorie C. Bartlett was born in Brockton, a daughter of the late Drexel and Katherine (Chandler) Bartlett. Raised and educated in Whitman, she was a graduate of Whitman-Hanson Regional High School, and later attended and graduated Cum Laude from Northeastern University with a Bachelor's degree in English. She would later put this degree to good use.

On July 2, 1967, she married her old high school classmate John in the Whitman Unitarian Church, and would go on to enjoy 48 years of marriage together. They chose to settle in Concord, where together, they raised their two sons. John's love and devotion to Marjorie in her sick years remained a testimony to their wedding vows years ago.

Marjorie was always a devoted educator, having taught for many years in many school districts in both Massachusetts and South Carolina. She retired from the education system in 1984, but she never stopped educating. Teaching her children became her new passion, and like everything in her life, that was a success too.

Family was the center of Marjorie's life, and she enjoyed spending time with her sons and grandchildren while cherishing holiday, birthday and all family gatherings. She was an avid reader, but most of all, enjoyed a good memoir. It didn't matter who the subject was. She believed everybody has an interesting tale to tell. She also greatly loved crossword puzzles. A delicious dessert. A good yard sale. But most of all, she loved putting other people first. And that held true even in her wheelchair to which multiple sclerosis confined her.

Celebrating the life and legacy of love is her husband Dr. John W. Archibald; their sons Neal Archibald, and his wife Michelle of Townsend, and Nathan Archibald of Jamaica Plain; her two grandsons Ryan and Rowan Archibald; and her sister Linda Troiano of Plymouth.

Family and friends will gather to honor and remember Marjorie on Saturday, April 16 from 10:00 am – 12:00 noon at the Concord Funeral Home, 74 Belknap St., Concord. A service will follow at 12:00 noon.

In lieu of flowers donations in her memory may be made to:
