March 29, 1908 — November 27, 2009

Marjorie Morrill Painter Whiting of Concord and Bedford died November 27, 2009 in her 101st year while listening to the last two pages of a book her daughter was reading to her. She was the beloved wife of 42 years of the late Whitfield Painter and for 7 years of the late John Whiting of Wilton, New Hampshire.

She leaves three children, Nancy P. Criscitiello (Modestino G.) of Newton, MA, Magot P. Bixby (George H.) of Andover and Whitfield Painter Jr. (Linda E. ) of Concord, MA., plus two stepchildren, John K. Whtiting IIII (Robin K.) of Bluffton, SC and Margaret W. Redding of Winnetcka, IL. In addition she leaves 11 grandchildren, 21 great-grandchildren, 8 step granchildren and 14 grand step children, her sister Mary "Polly" Elwell Sands of Amherst, MA and 4 nieces and 9 nephews.

Besides being one of the most amazing, fun loving, thoughtful, kind and generous persons, Midge, Grannie, Mum also loved both young and old and brought a smile to anyone she encountered always making a point to ask what they were up to. She was known for her racquet skills in the late twenties and early thirties playing at Wimbeldon, winning several national tennis titles, ranked number two in the United States in 1930 and in the top ten in the United States in four other years.

During her husband's sales career with Plymouth Cordage Company, Plymouth, MA she helped move her family from Dedham, MA to Plymouth, MA to Memphis, TN, to Milwaukee, WI, to Gates Mills, OH, to Philadelphia, PA to Ladue and Creve Coeur Creek, MO to Winnetka, IL and finally to Weston, MA never owning a home until the last stop. This enabled the family to meet numerous friends, especially those who played tennis.

In accordance with her wishes, a private family service will be held. Special thanks should be given to her caregivers in Concord and the extraordinary caring staff at Carleton Willard Skilled Nursing Facility of Bedford, MA.
