Martha L. Spence, age 63 of Carlisle, passed away on Friday, August 8, 2008 at her home. She was the devoted and loving wife of Robert Spence.
Born on October 31, 1944 in Rockford, Illinois, she was the daughter of Ray Willard Moehring and the late Ruth Virginia Moehring. Mrs. Spence attended the University of Illinois and received a Masters Degree in Mathematics from the University of Notre Dame.
Upon graduation she taught high school math, and then began her computer career at IBM in New Jersey. She later moved to Massachusetts where she worked for Digital Equipment Corporation for 19 years. Most recently Mrs. Spence tutored children in the Special Education Department of the Lincoln-Sudbury Regional High School.
During her spare time she enjoyed taking motorcycle trips with her husband. She was an avid reader, enjoyed fine dining, handcrafts, and participating in role playing games. She will be remembered for her caring and gentle personality, sense of humor, and boundless energy. She will be greatly missed by her many friends.
Besides her husband and father she is survived by a sister, Kristine Moehring of Cornville, Arizona. She is predeceased by her brother Dean, who was killed during the Vietnam Conflict.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, August 16, at 2:00 p.m. at the American Legion, George A. Campbell Post No. 11; 194 Lexington Road (at 4 corners), Woburn, MA. A public reception will follow until 5:00 p.m.
