Mary Margaret (Kelly) Duggay

August 22, 1922 — June 5, 2015

Mary Margaret (Kelly) Duggay, age 92, passed away peacefully on June 5, 2015. She was the wife of the late Major William C. Duggay, US Army (Ret.) to whom she was married for 50 years.

Mary was born on August 22, 1926 in New London, CT to Mary (Cunningham) and Cornelius Kelly. After graduating from the Williams School there, she worked for the New Jersey Bell Telephone Co. customer service department where she was admired for her warmth, grace, and personal touch. Throughout her life, anyone who met her became an instant admirer of her kind and warm personality. On April 7, 1958 she married Bill Duggay, then a captain in the United States Army. They spent much of the next decade stationed at various Army bases in Europe and the western United States where they made many friends for life, thanks to Mary's grace, kindness, and her outgoing personality. As a result of their travels for military assignments, their experiences, friendships, and personalities made them a welcome addition to any social occasion.

When her husband retired from the Army, they bought a beautiful home in Hull, MA where they lived for 34 years making it a favorite destination because they loved entertaining family and friends, in addition to going to the Boston Symphony, Tanglewood, watching the Boston Red Sox games, and participating in Democratic politics. Mary also enjoyed poetry, reciting favorite poems from memory until the week of her passing. After her husband's death in 2008 Mary moved to the Villa at St. Antoine's in North Smithfield, RI. Mary's parents and her brothers Thomas, Cornelius, George, and John predeceased her. She is survived by her cousin, Marguerite (Peggy) Neill, of Westfield, NJ and many nieces, nephews and lifelong friends who cherish the memory of Mary's grace and kindness that she shared every day with everyone she met.

Services will be held at the National Military Cemetery in Bourne, MA on June 17, 2015 at 2 PM

Gifts in her memory may be made to Wellspring, 814 Nantasket Ave., Hull, MA 02045
