Concord, MA -- Maxwell Eugene Lawrence, Jr. died peacefully at home on February 19, 2022, at 92 years of age.
He was born and raised in Concord, Massachusetts and attended Concord High School, where a lifetime love of football was born from his time on the field. His love of his country led him to King's Point; after graduation he joined the Merchant Marines and served on submarines with the Navy all over the world. He had a long and distinguished career at Polaroid Corporation where he ran film divisions and invented new processes for manufacturing film for Polaroid cameras. He later joined Instrumentation Laboratory as Vice President of Engineering and went on to start his own company, Telemark, which took him to Scotland for seven years.
His strong faith led him to leadership positions in the Evangelical Free Church of Concord and Chairman of the Board of Lexington Christian Academy. He counseled and mentored countless people during his lifetime.
He was the son of the late Maxwell Lawrence and Cornelia Martinsen. He leaves his beloved wife of 40 years, Catherine Lawrence; his daughter, Deborah Lawrence-Swallow, her husband, George Swallow, their daughter, Kristina Elyse Swallow and her husband, Will Crumbley, and their daughter, Eleanor Swallow Crumbley; he was predeceased by his son, David Maxwell Lawrence and his stepson, Paul Feeley, and leaves his step-daughter-in-law, Gina Murphy and her son, Michael Feeley, and her daughter, Dara Vaccaro and her daughter, Natalia Vaccaro; and his stepson Mark Feeley, and his sons, Miles Feeley and Mason Feeley. He loved his family dearly and leaves countless friends, nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Family and friends gathered to honor and remember Maxwell for visiting hours on Friday, February 25, 2022, from 2:00-5:00 pm at the Concord Funeral Home, 74 Belknap St., Concord. His funeral service was held Saturday, February 26, 2022, at 11:00 am at the Trinitarian Congregational Church, 54 Walden St., Concord. Interment followed with U.S. Navy Military Honors at Sleepy Hollow Cemetery.
Concord's town flag flew at half-staff on Saturday, February 26, 2022 in honor of Maxwell's service to our country in the United States Navy.
