Miriam Lois Engebretson

July 17, 1921 — June 24, 2022

Carver

Miriam “Mim” Lois (Fletcher) Engebretson age 100, of Carver formerly of Concord, MA passed away on Friday, June 24, 2022.

Mim was born on July 17, 1921, a daughter of the late Alvin and Dora (Wentworth) Fletcher.   She graduated from Hale High School in Stow and went on to receive a degree in Music/Education at Lowell Teachers College.  She taught music and art in Leominster until she married the late James “Fred” Engebretson in 1946 and resided in Concord for 43 years.

Mim’s love of working with children prompted her to teach piano lessons in her Concord home, and then return to teaching elementary music in the public school system in Concord for 20 years until her retirement in 1981.  She was very active in the West Concord Union Church as the Youth Choir Director and organist, and as a member of the Woman’s Club and Rebekah Lodge as well as volunteering as a Girl Scout leader for several years.

She and Fred moved to South Meadow Village in Carver, MA in 1984 to be near to their children.  She was also active there enjoying line dancing, knitting, and crocheting for charities, and attending many social events with Fred.

The word that comes to mind with everyone who has ever been in her presence is AMAZING!  From her hard-working and passionate ability to instill a love of music in young people, to her positive and realistic outlook on life, to her quick wit and humorous quips that brought smiles to all, to her soft spoken and caring treatment of others, to her appreciation of her many lifelong blessings, to her continuing attempts to keep her mind sharp and her desire to always present herself in a respectable manner.

She is the personification of an inspiration to all and truly a wonderful role model for those who knew and loved her.

Mim is survived by her two adoring children, Lois Boutilier and Robert Engebretson currently of Bridgewater, MA, three nieces and four nephews.  Along with her husband Fred and her parents she is predeceased by her brothers Bernard Fletcher and Malcolm Fletcher, son-in-law Wayne Boutilier and three nieces.

Family and friends will gather to honor and remember Mim for a period of visitation on Thursday, June 30, 2022, from 10:00 am – 11:30 am at the Concord Funeral Home, 74 Belknap St., Concord.  Her funeral service will immediately follow at 11:30 am.  Burial in Sleepy Hollow Cemetery will be private.
