Nancy M. Giragosian

July 5, 1956 — February 6, 2025

Nantucket, Massachusetts

Nancy Giragosian of Nantucket and Boston died February 6, 2025 at Massachusetts General Hospital from complications of amyloidosis. She was 68.

Born in Troy, New York, she was raised in Valley Forge, Pennsylvania, and Concord, Massachusetts, where she attended Concord-Carlisle High School. She graduated with an economics major from Ohio State University and went on to show a remarkable acumen for business administration with a talent for organization and strategic planning.

In Boston, she excelled as an executive at the Lord & Taylor and Jordan Marsh companies and at Mainspring Corporation/IBM in Cambridge. As the head of several human resource departments, she gave opportunities to many applicants who may have been overlooked elsewhere. She also advocated for diversity in hiring well before the practice was widely accepted.

A lovely, kind, and generous woman, she gave her family and friends tremendous joy with her sparkling wit and clever conversation. She was also a superb cook, making delicious and memorable meals for many guests. But her favorite pursuit was gardening; she found the Nantucket sea air perfect for flourishing beautiful shrubs and flowers for which she frequently received compliments from passersby.

Nancy was predeceased by her parents, Pakrad and Louise (Mgurdichian) Giragosian; she is survived by Burton Went, her companion of 43 years; her sister, Patricia Giragosian, of Gloucester, and her brother, Timothy Girian, of Manchester-by-the-Sea. She also leaves behind her nephew, Samuel Girian, a medical student at Tulane University, and niece, Elizabeth Girian, a prospective law student in Edinburgh, Scotland.

Family and friends will gather to honor and remember Nancy for visiting hours on Monday, February 17, 2025, from 11:00 am – 1:00 pm at the Concord Funeral Home, 74 Belknap St., Concord, MA. Her funeral service will follow at 1:00 pm. Burial in Nantucket will be private.
