Nancy Virginia Wright

February 1, 1919 — June 8, 2009

Nancy Virginia (Snyder) Wright, 90, of Tucson, AZ passed away peacefully June 8,
2009 in Concord, MA at the home of her daughter, surrounded by loving family.

Nancy was born on February 1st, 1919 in Winchester, MA the only child of the late
Cmdr (Ret.) Rony Snyder and Lillian (Winn) Snyder. Her extensive travels
throughout her life began at an early age, following her Navy father across the
Americas.

After graduating from Winchester High School, she matriculated at
Simmons College, majoring in English with an emphasis in Journalism and
Publishing.

In 1940, she married her Prince Charming, the late Robert Damon Wright in
Portland, ME. They made their home in several different U.S. cities over the ensuing
ten years, during which time she gave birth to four children. Venturing further
afield, the family moved to England in 1950, where they were a vital part of the
rebuilding of post war Britain. Nancy loved meeting people and enjoyed
entertaining and being part of a new culture. She was a guide par excellence for any
visitors and became quite the Anglophile.

The family returned to the United States in 1955 only to seize an opportunity the
following year to move to Belgium, where a fifth child was born. Nancy became
deeply involved in the American community in The Hague, The Netherlands. As
President of the American Women’s Club, she was a sophisticated, witty, and
intelligent representative for the United States.

Another ten‐year stint in England found her playing bridge, gardening, attending the
theatre, and staying au courant with local and global issues and politics. She was a
voracious reader… and loved cats! She continued her interest in political issues by
joining the League of Women Voters in Concord upon her return to the US. Nancy
was a member of the West Concord Women’s Club, the Colonial Craftsmen, and the
Eastern Star. She attended Trinity Episcopal Church in Concord.

Retirement found Nancy in Clearwater and Palm Harbor, Florida, where she was
deeply involved with the Holy Spirit Episcopal in Safety Harbor. Drawn by the
beauty of the desert, she spent her last years in Tucson, Arizona.

She is survived by her children: Lee Strauch of Wildwood, MO, Robert Wright of Naples, FL, Susan
Collins of Hollywood, England, Ellen Heinberg of Wilmington, NC, and Deborah Gregory of Concord, MA. Also 13 grandchildren and 13 great‐grandchildren.

The family wishes to thank Nashoba Hospice for their attentive care during Nancy’s
final days.
