Newel Mansfield Cantrill

Newel Mansfield Cantrill, 90, a long-time resident of Carlisle, MA, passed away peacefully at home on May 9, 2024, with his loving family by his side. He was the loving and devoted husband of Donna Lee (Sadler) Cantrill for 68 years.

Newel Mansfield Cantrill was born on March 17, 1934, in Asa, KY, a son of the late Mason and Birtie (Helton) Cantrill and raised in Paintsville, KY.

After graduating high school, Newel enlisted in the United States Navy, proudly serving four years on the USS Salem and a radar picket ship during the Korean War.

While in the service, Newel met, fell in love, and married Donna Sadler on January 27, 1956. They lived in Boston, Arlington, and Burlington, MA, before settling in Carlisle, MA, nearly 60 years ago.

After working for several local companies, Newel opened his business, Allied Retail Systems, which sells, services, and repairs retail systems to many companies in Massachusetts and New Hampshire.

Newel and Donna enjoyed many activities with their family, such as Square Dancing and Boy Scouts. They also spent many years helping to organize the Town of Carlisle, Old Home Day, and the Holiday Green sale. They also enjoyed spending many evenings and weekends playing cards and board games with their family. In 2006, Newel and Donna were recognized as the Town of Carlisle's Most Honored Citizens.

Along with his wife Donna, he is survived by his three children, Richard of Lowell, MA, Jason and his wife Anne of Framingham, MA, and Pamela and her partner Lionel of Methuen, MA. He also leaves seven grandchildren: Kaitlynn, Joshua, Edelson, Jennifer, Thomas, Milton, Tyler, and several nieces and nephews.  He was also the brother of the late Henry, Helen, Vonnie, and Gary Cantrill.

Newel’s gentile smile and selfless demeanor will be missed by all who knew him.

Family and friends will gather to honor and remember Newel during calling hours on Sunday, May 19, 2024, from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. at the Concord Funeral Home, 74 Belknap St., Concord. His funeral service will be held in the funeral home on Monday, May 20, at 11:00 a.m. Burial with U.S. Navy Military Honors will follow at Green Cemetery, Carlisle.

Concord's town flag will fly at half-staff on Monday, May 20, 2024, in honor of Newel Cantrill and his service to our country.
