Pamela Shaw Sturgis

November 13, 1948 — April 14, 2023

Concord, Massachusets

Pamela Shaw Sturgis of Concord MA passed away peacefully at the age of 74 on April 14, 2023, with the love of her friends surrounding her. Pam was a long-time resident of Concord and was an active member in her community. Pam was from Winnetka, Illinois and attended New Trier High School.

While a sophomore at New Trier High School in Winnetka, Illinois, the Beatles bug bit Pamela. In the Beatles music, Pam found an exuberance and joy that she carried with her throughout her life.

Pam leaves behind her nephew Bob Sturgis, grandnieces Nicole and Jessica, as well as many good friends in Boston and across the country.

Pam was active in the Concord Players, active in her church community, and was a volunteer at Emerson Hospital and Household Goods in Acton. Pam was involved with the Big Sister Mentoring Program of Boston. She was a Big Sister for many years mentoring a young girl from the ages of 10 to 14. Pam had recently retired from Gustavo Preston Company in June of 2022.

Pam donated her time to the Concord Players in many capacities. She produced many shows, served as a member of the Concord Board, worked backstage as a prop manager, and worked to create amazing costumes for so many of the productions. She also created many fine dinners for the actors and crew during dress rehearsal. She spent several years on the board of Friends of the Performing Arts at 51 Walden Street, Concord.

Pam was a long-time member of the West Concord Union Church and one of four founding members of the Sunday Fellowship program there which was expressly designed to meet the spiritual needs of differently abled adults. She gave generously of her time and humor and love to all involved – members, parents, guests, and staff. Pam was integral in including developmentally disabled members to be fully engaged in church activities.

Pam gave of her time to Emerson Hospital as a volunteer. She worked in transport, helping patients to traverse the hospital. Her cheerful attitude and gift of conversation gave patients many happy moments.

Pam recently started working for Household Goods in Acton, a charity that accepts gently used furniture and household items and gives them away free of charge to those in need. She greatly enjoyed interacting with clients and hearing their stories. Her natural ability to relate to people and ready smile made all the difference to people needing some kindness in their lives.

Throughout her work years, Pam worked in accounting, HR and as an administrative assistant for the Harvard Review. Pam worked at Gustavo Preston for the last 14 years as an Officer Manager/Billing Specialist. Her colleague felt her title should have been “Wonder Woman,” as she did so many different tasks.

Family and friends will gather for a period of visitation on Thursday, April 20, 2023, from 5:00-8:00 pm at the Concord Funeral Home, 74 Belknap Street, Concord, MA.
