Richard P. Winchell, age 88 of Lincoln passed away on Sunday, December 5, 2010 at the Gardens Assisted Living at Newbury Court, Concord. He was the husband of Martha (Smith) Winchell.
Born in Arlington on February 16, 1922 he was the son of Guilbert and Evelyn (Saylor) Winchell.
Raised in Lincoln, Mr. Winchell graduated from Tufts College in Mechanical Engineering and soon enlisted in the U.S. Navy serving in WWII as Lieutenant.
Upon his return home, Mr. Winchell began a long and distinguished career with Liquid Carbonic Corporation that spanned 38 years, where he was responsible for their international industrial gas production business.
Together he and Martha lived and raised their children in Caracas, Venezuela; Medellin and Bogota, Columbia; and Chicago, Illinois, and upon retirement moved back to Lincoln where he enjoyed golf, tennis, fishing, skiing, gardening, music, volunteering at Emerson Hospital, helping care for Martha's mother Florence, and spending time with Martha, their children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Besides his wife, he is survived by his children David and his wife Charlotte of Harvard, Stephen and his wife Martha of MD, Peter and his wife Maggie of MN and Linda and her husband Timothy Lybarger of VT. He also leaves 11 grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren.
