Robert Lane

March 30, 1926 — January 5, 2017

Robert M. Lane, Jr. age 90 of Concord formerly of Petersham and Sudbury passed away peacefully on Thursday, January 5, 2017. He was the husband of the late Anna L. (Herndon) Lane and the father of Roberta Ann (Lane) Benson.

Born in Medford on March 30, 1926 he was the son of the late Robert M. Lane, Sr. and Laura B. (Perkins). Robert was raised in Everett and Medford graduating from Medford High School in 1944. He enlisted in the United States Army and after his return from the Europe, he was stationed in Virginia where he worked at the VA Hospital in Martinsburg, WV. Following his discharge, he married Anna and they then moved back to the Boston area, where he attended Boston University and Franklin Technical Business School in Boston. They moved to Sudbury in 1954 where they lived until 1986, when they moved to Petersham.

Bob started his automotive career with Moye Chevrolet in Newton in customer relations, then for Desoto a division of Chrysler for five years, and Studebacker-Packard Corporation for five years before returning to Chrysler for many years retiring in 1981. Following his retirement he started his own business processing warranty claims for several Chrysler dealers, which he operated for 20 years. He was also a funeral assistant with Higgins-O'Connor Funeral Home in Athol until 2012.

Bob was a former member of the Memorial Congregational Church in Sudbury, the Orthodox Congregational Church in Petersham and was a member of the Central Congregational Church of New Salem. He was a member of the Rotary Club and also a member of the Zion Masonic Lodge A.F. & A.M. in Barre. He served on the board of the Petersham Public Library, volunteered for many years at the Harvard Forest, the Petersham Historical Society and was a lifetime member of the Mayflower Society. He was also active on the Petersham Council on Aging serving on the board for several years. In 2008 received the Citizen of the Year from the Petersham Lions Club. Other interests included walking, taking care of several cats, antiques, working around his property and helping others.

Bob is survived by his daughter Bobbi and her husband Chip of Concord.

Family and friends will gather to honor and remember Bob on Monday, January 9 at 3:30 pm in the Memorial Congregational Church, 26 Concord Rd, Sudbury. Burial will be private in East Street Cemetery, Petersham.
