PARSONS: Robert Tremaine Parsons of Silver City, NM formerly of Weston and Lincoln passed away at Gila Regional Medical Center on January 9, 2009.
He was born on January 10,1919, in Hyde Park, MA to Tremaine Parsons and Marion E. (Cook) Parsons of Lenox, MA. He graduated from Lenox High School in 1936 and Boston University College of Business Administration, Cum laude in 1940. He served in the U.S. Army in active duty from 1942-1945 in Europe as Captain in Infantry Company Commander, Hq. Co., 376th Regt., 94th Division, US Army (Patton). He was awarded Expert Combat Infantry Badge, Bronze Star, European Campaign Ribbon with four campaign stars. He was a Major in the Infantry retired reserve.
Robert was preceded in death by his parents, his first wife Betty Jean VanKeuren Parsons and their daughter Elizabeth Rockwell Parsons, and his wife Jean Richmond Parsons, and her daughter Burr Nelson. He is survived by his three children; Peter VK Parsons of Boston, MA, Robin M. Parsons of Silver City, NM and Tremaine Parsons of Georgetown, CA and five step children; Rowena Sard, Lee Nelson, Perry Nelson, Skye Savageaux, and Eroica Schenck. His grandchildren include Arow Parsons-Pineda of Austin Texas, Tsama Parsons-Pineda of Silver City, Robin T. Parsons and Maida Parsons of Georgetown, CA and Lian Parsons and William Parsons of Boston Mass. He had one great granddaughter Samera Solenne Castillo of Austin Texas.
Mr. Parsons was president of The Van Keuren Co. of Watertown, MA from 1945-1984. He was a recognized authority on measurement of gears and threads using precise cylinders as accessories with conventional super measuring machines. Mr. Parsons lived most of his adult life in Weston and Lincoln, MA. While in Weston, he was very active in community affairs as a member of St. Peters Episcopal Church, the Weston Friendly Society, Board of directors Forest and Trail Assn and, member of the"Westonairs" singing group. He was active in the Weston Little League program and a member of the Weston Golf Club for twenty years. In 1990 he retired to Harrisville, NH. Shortly thereafter began to winter in Silver City, NM., and moved to Silver City as a resident in 1998. He was a member of the Episcopal Church of the Good Shepherd in Silver City. Bob or Bear, as he know to many, is remembered by friends and family as a great communicator who loved to talk, listen and enjoy a good meal at Diane’s.
During retirement Mr. Parsons was often sighted walking his beloved dog Feste and could most always produce a dog bone as a good will offering to any canine encountered.
