Robert Linden Travis, Jr.

Robert Linden Travis, Jr. (“Bob”), 84, of Casco, Maine, and Acton, Massachusetts, passed away peacefully at home after a long illness on January 29, 2026.

Bob grew up in Westbrook, Maine, and earned both his bachelor’s and master’s degrees from Wesleyan University in Connecticut. After college, he embarked on a lifelong and deeply fulfilling career as a software engineer. Among the highlights of his career were his work on the Apollo Space Program at the MIT Instrumentation Laboratory, as well as positions at Digital Equipment Corporation, AltaVista, and Yahoo. He held several patents related to commercial word processing and internet search software, reflecting both his technical brilliance and innovative spirit.

Bob married Kay Morabito in 1962, and together they raised three children: Chris, Sean, and Sarah. They spent nearly thirty years living in Concord, Massachusetts, before moving to Casco, Maine, where they made their home for the next twenty-five years. Along the way, they also spent time in Charlottesville, Virginia, Berkeley, California, and Acton, Massachusetts.

After retiring, Bob rekindled his lifelong love of music, returning to the baritone horn and joining several community bands in both Charlottesville and Maine. These included the Bridgton Community Band, the Westbrook City Band, the Fanfare Concert Band, Low Commotion, and the Maine Pops Concert Band, among others. Through music, he formed close friendships and found great joy. He was also an avid fan of live music, especially jazz, and frequently photographed performers, generously donating his beautiful images for their promotional use.

Bob loved walking in nature and spent countless hours photographing wildlife and landscapes. He had a rare gift for capturing movement and light in a way that conveyed a sense of magic and peace.

Above all, Bob will be remembered for his kindness and compassion. He had an extraordinary ability to make everyone he met feel welcome and appreciated. With his ready smile, twinkle in his eye, light-hearted humor, and wide-ranging curiosity, Bob was always eager to engage in meaningful conversation and make new friends wherever he went. He cherished the friendships he formed throughout his life.

Bob was completely devoted to his wife of 64 years, Kay. High school sweethearts, they shared a long and deeply happy marriage. He was also devoted to his children and grandchildren, his siblings, and his nieces and nephews.

Bob was predeceased by his parents, Robert and Arline Travis, his sister, Pam Amoroso, and his sister-in-law, Jackie Levasseur. 

He is survived by his wife, Kay Travis; his children, Chris Travis, Sean Travis, and his ex-wife, Monika; and Sarah Travis Buck and her husband, Topher. He is also survived by his beloved grandchildren, Lily Travis, Nory Buck, Sanche Buck, and Rosy Travis; his brother, Don Travis; his sister, Susan Kellogg; and his sister-in-law, Diane Morabito.

Funeral services will be held in Maine this summer.
