Rodney L. Folk

Rodney L. Folk age 70 of Bedford, formerly of Concord passed away on Wednesday, March 18, 2009 at Massachusetts General Hospital.

Born in Astoria, Oregon on March 4, 1939 he was the son of the late Rudolph and Ellie (Filby) Folk. Raised and educated in Astoria and Eugene, Oregon, he later attended and graduated from University of Oregon with a degree in Political Science. Mr.Folk enlisted in the U.S. Army in 1957 and spent 2 years in Germany.

After leaving the Army, he worked in banking in New York City, then transferred to San Francisco, and then lived in Australia for 2 years. Returning home to Oregon, he pursued a Masters Degree in Special Education at the University of Oregon.

Taking a long weekend visit back to San Francisco, he met his future wife Sandra in the hotel when he retrieved her fallen shoe at the bottom of the stairs. Moving to Boston, they married in 1973; he worked in education and later in business development.

They settled in Concord and raised their 2 children, Carl Louis and Dorette Alexandra.

Upon retirement he enjoyed spending time with his family, volunteering at the Harvard Museum of Natural History, and spending time at Walden Pond writing in his journal. At the time of his death he was working on a prototype for ski goggles, based on masks that the Inuits developed and wore in Alaska.

He is survived by his children, Carl L Folk of Concord and Dorette Boland of Acton, his brother John Folk of Astoria, Oregon, a sister Anne Levitch of Bend, Oregon and his former wife Sandra (Rebhan) Folk of Concord. He was also the brother of the late Rudolph T. Folk.
