Ruth Way d'Autremont

July 26, 1923 — October 19, 2009

Ruth Way d’Autremont, 86, died peacefully on October 19, 2009. She was preceded in death by her husband of 63 years, her brother John Way, and her nephew Rick Way.

Ruth was born in Hartford, CT on July 26, 1923. She grew up in Hartford and Gilead, attended Oxford School, the Masters School and Smith College. During WWII she volunteered at the Hartford Hospital, where she met her future husband, Dr. Chester d'Autremont. They married on June 1, 1945, moved to Belmont, MA in 1947, to Lincoln, MA in 1957, and to Lexington in 2004.

Ruth loved her family, both immediate and extended, her community and her friends. She was very proud of being a Connecticut Yankee, with roots back to the Mayflower. She had a strong sense of tradition, which manifested in wonderful holiday parties. Her guests were treated to a warm smile and remarkable enthusiasm, as well as generous food and drink. Her children and grandchildren are grateful to her for that sense of continuity and history, as was as for imparting her mastery of precise language, social graces, and the culinary and sartorial arts.

Ruth is survived by her children Cicely, Chester (Susan), Hugh, Sloan (Michael Fadlovich), Ruth (Charles Conroy); beloved grandchildren Jordan Rattray, Lindsay Vriavas (Chris), Madeleine Saiz, Claire, Peter, and Nicholas Fadlovich, Sirkka Wood (Chris), and Annika Wilson (Jerod); great granddaughters Ayla and Elenor Wilson and Nissa Wood; sisters-in-law Cicely d'Autremont Angleton and Virginia Way, and many loving cousins, nieces, and nephews.
