Shanghao Liu, PhD age 56 and resident of Lexington passed away peacefully on Thursday, July 4, 2019 at Care One at Lexington.
Born in Wenzhou, China on January 3, 1963 he was the son of Chunlan Wang and the late Youzhao Ye. Shanghao grew up in Zhejiang Province. He came to US to pursue his American Dream. He obtained his Ph. D. in Organic Chemistry from Purdue University in 1995. He then moved to Professor Hamilton's lab at Yale University where he worked on synthesis of modified ribonucleotides and oligoribonucleotides.
He joined Organix, Inc. in 1998 and has worked there for over 20 years. He was a creative chemist and had his own research interests that he turned into several grant applications.
His favorite quote was "The definition of Insanity, doing same thing over and over, and expecting different results".
Shanghao was a loving husband and father of two sons. He was a very strong man, having battled lung cancer for three years as well as other hardships.
He is survived by his partner Faye Zhao of Lexington, his sons James Liu and Andrew Liu, brothers Shangyou Liu, Jinpei Ye and Jinjian Ye, sisters Xiaofei Liu and Xiaoyin Ye.
His burial was in WestView Cemetery in Lexington on July 18, 2019.
