Shirley Ross Irwin

Shirley Ross Irwin passed away on September 9th, 2021 residing at Traditions of Wayland, Mass. She is survived by her four children: Dr. Thomas Irwin of Dalton, MA, Karen Mueller of Mountainview, CA, Jennifer Shaw of Palm Bay, FL, and J. Andrew Irwin of Wayland, MA. She is also survived by five grandchildren and one great grandchild. She was a resident of Connecticut from 1953, living in Torrington and then Harwinton until 1977. She then moved to West Hartford until 2010 when she retired and moved to Massachusetts.

Shirley was born in Islip, NY in 1928 and graduated from Jamaica High School in Queens in 1946. She then graduated Kings County Hospital School of Nursing class of 1949, and then their School of Nurse Anesthesia in 1951. She was married to Dr. John B. Irwin from 1950 until 1978. After raising her children, she graduated from Trinity College in Hartford with a bachelor's degree in History and Economics in 1979, and then a JD from Western New England College School of Law, in Springfield, MA in 1982.

She joined the bar of Connecticut and had a part-time solo practice of law in West Hartford until 2002. She concurrently worked as a Nurse Anesthetist at New Britain General Hospital from 1983 until 1995, and then for the Little Blue Book, in Avon, CT when it was WebMD of NY from 1996 until it closed in October of 2009.

There will be no calling hours. Burial will take place at Hillside Cemetery, Torrington, CT at the convenience of the family in their family plot.
