Susan B. Perry, 68, of Concord, MA passed away in her home on June 16, 2011 from complications of Parkinson’s Disease. She was the daughter of the late Arthur Perry and the late Marjorie Bemis Perry of Concord, MA, and the sister of Arthur Perry Jr. of Bethesda, MD, Edward Perry and Penny Rodday of Concord, MA, Steve Perry of Pine, CO, and Sam Perry of Menlo Park, CA. She is also survived by ten nieces and nephews, and by many cousins.
Susan was born in Providence, R.I. and raised in Concord, MA. She attended Concord Academy and graduated from The Madeira School, McLean, Virginia. She was a graduate of Colby Junior College in New London, NH and from Columbia University, College of Physicians and Surgeons in 1964.
Susan was a Physical Therapist at Massachusetts General Hospital for 29 years. There, she was revered for her dedication to the profession, for her passionate commitment to patient care, and for mentoring new staff members. In the 1980’s, she took leave from Mass General in order to practice physical therapy at Chelsea and Westminster Hospital, London, England and to make professional visits to facilities in Bogota, Columbia and Sydney, Australia. She also taught at Simmons College and at Boston University’s Sargent School of Health.
Susan enjoyed athletics, especially tennis and hiking and was an experienced horsewoman. She was an enthusiastic birder and relished quiet hours gardening. She treasured her time spent in nature, especially in the Ossipee Mountains in the Lakes Region of New Hampshire. Susan rejoiced in New England traditions and culture. She was a lifelong fan of the Red Sox and Patriots and loved the Boston Symphony Orchestra. She became a devoted participant in Concord’s Town Meeting, was a keen observer of national politics, and an early and constant supporter of National Public Radio.
A memorial service will be held at Duvall Chapel of Newbury Court, 80 Deaconess Road, Concord, MA on Friday, August 26th, 2011 at 1:00 pm.
