Vilma Friedlander Brody

Vilma Friedlander Brody passed away peacefully while being read to in Concord, MA on Monday, February 7, 2022 at the age of 93. Vilma was preceded by her husband Sidney Brody.
She was born in New York City on December 27, 1928, one of ten children to Samuel and Mollie (Drimmer) of Austria. She is survived by her sons David and Kenneth, her grandchildren Samuel, Stephanie, Alex, Evan, Katherine and Matthew, her brother Sid, sister, Sondra and her sons David and Kenneth as well as other family and friends.
Vilma grew up on Hoe Avenue in the Bronx, where she met her husband of almost 50 years. They married on Dec 24, 1950 moving first into her family's apartment then, once Sid received his MD, into a famously small 5th floor walk-up studio apartment on East 23rd Street. As they continued growing their life together Vilma received her degree in Mathematics from Hunter College, eventually moving to Riverdale, then Scarsdale where together they raised their loving family. After her children were grown, she returned to her education, received a master's degree in Nutrition from NYU, and pursued a long and successful career as a registered dietician until retiring to Boynton Beach, Florida in 1998. After Sid's passing Vilma returned to the cold and snow, moving to Peabody, MA to be nearer her sons and enjoying her time, playing bridge, mah-jong and doing swim aerobics; welcomed by new friends and a companion, Charlie.
Vilma will be remembered by her family and friends as a kind, loving, caring and protective figure who was always a comfort and support to those she loved. She will be sorely missed.
Family and friends will gather for a graveside service on Thursday, February 10, 2022 at 12:00 noon at Westview Cemetery, 520 Bedford St., Lexington, MA.
