Viola M. (Williams) Hodgdon, age 95 of Concord, formerly of Cranston, Rhode Island, passed away on Saturday April 5, 2008 at Emerson Hospital. She was the wife of the late Earl C. Hodgdon Jr.
Born in Providence, RI, she was the daughter of the late Thomas and Ellen (Tarring) Williams. Raised in Cranston, she graduated from Providence Commercial High School in 1930. From there she worked at RI Hospital Trust Commercial Office in Providence until she married in 1938.
Viola and Earl settled in Massachusetts where they raised their children while living in Norwood, Westwood, and then Grafton. During these years she was an office worker for the State of Massachusetts. They moved to Narragansett, RI in 1968 where they enjoyed Bonnet Shores beach and sail boating out of Wickford RI.
She worked for the Chamber of Commerce in Wakefield and as a volunteer at South County Hospital.
Mrs. Hodgdon was Grand Matron and past Matron of Samoset Chapter 109 Order of Eastern Star, Norwood, MA and was also a member of Nestell Chapter 6 Order of the Eastern Star in Rhode Island. She was past Commander of Point Judith Flotilla, Secretary of U.S. Coast Guard Aux Division, and served as Secretary and on the Board of Directors of the Senior Youth Association in Peacedale, RI.
She is survived by her daughter Carol H. Vanderlippe of Acton, MA and her son Thomas E. Hodgdon of Devens, MA. She is also survived by 4 grandchildren, Deborah and Walter Luikey and Jaime and Joshua Hodgdon, and 5 great-grandchildren, Joseph and Jayson Mahoney and David, Kevin, and Nicholas Luikey.�She was the sister of the late Marguerite Mangler.
